Young people tell us that their teachers often don't know enough to teach relationships and sex education (RSE) well. It is important that teachers of RSE are well trained for the job, and that schools do not rely on external visitors as a substitute for planning and managing their own RSE programme. Expert visitors should be invited in to enhance and supplement the programme where appropriate.
Many of our partners provide expert services to support schools, colleges and others with RSE including training for school staff, consultancy and direct classroom teaching. To qualify as a partner of the Sex Education Forum organisations or individuals must be in agreement with our ten values and principles for good quality RSE. We are unable to constantly monitor the practice of our partners, but we do have confidence that their ethos is based on evidence-based good practice. Meet our partners!
The Sex Education Forum has also produced guidance on working with external visitors.
