Launching our five-year strategy 2026-30

31 March 2026

Sex Education Forum is delighted to announce the launch of our new five‑year strategy (2026–2030), opening the next chapter in our mission to secure high‑quality, inclusive relationships and sex education (RSE) for all children and young people.

Founded in 1987, Sex Education Forum has long been recognised for our unique ability to bring organisations, educators and young people together to drive improvements in RSE. Since becoming an independent charity in 2021, we have championed evidence‑informed practice and policy-making, supported schools and families, and ensured young people’s voices shape national understanding of RSE quality through our annual poll and youth partnerships.

With universal RSE provision in schools entering a new phase under updated statutory guidance, this strategy arrives at a pivotal moment for the sector.

Our 2026–2030 strategy is built around four mutually reinforcing pillars:

  • Convening: We will convene the sector, bringing together a wide range of partners, including youth-led organisations, so that we can share our collective understanding of the challenges and solutions. We will call for RSE to extend beyond school.

  • Communicating: We want the whole community to have a greater understanding of what RSE really is and the role that everyone can play in protective education for children. We will explain the realities and research about RSE in accessible ways.

  • Equipping: We will strive to ensure educators and trusted adults are better equipped to teach relationships and sex education effectively and to address health inequalities. Our approach will focus on reducing health inequalities by prioritising the trusted adults who support marginalised young people.

  • Innovating: We will respond to the changing health and well-being needs of children and young people. We will collaborate to design and test innovative responses to gaps in RSE provision.

These priorities are underpinned by our commitment to youth voice. Our annual Young People’s RSE Poll has become a trusted national barometer, regularly cited in research and policy spaces and quoted in Parliament. Our evidence has shaped improvements to RSHE guidance and commitments in the national VAWG strategy.

As we celebrate five years as an independent charity and open the next chapter, we extend heartfelt thanks to our partners, members, funders and the young people who inform and inspire our work. Together, this community has laid out the foundations for a future where every young person receives the RSE they deserve.
