The vital role of relationships and sex education in preventing poor sexual health has been highlighted recently by the Chief Medical Officer and the Children’s Commissioner for England. Statutory RSHE should be delivering on this entitlement for all children and young people. It is unsettling when we discover that basic aspects of RSE – such as puberty and sexual health education are getting neglected.
Our ‘back to basics’ themed event will put a spot-light on the current challenges for young people in accessing reliable sex education and sexual health information, and explore some of the opportunities available through digital technology and the classroom to tune into children and young people’s needs, so that we can focus together on inclusive and effective ways to educate and fulfill everyone’s entitlement.
The agenda includes speakers:
- Ha Pham, founder of digital ecosystem ‘She Talks’, on how to make sex education fun by using 1-minute animated videos
- Brook's Research and Evaluation Manager, Jessi Winters; and Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Lisa Hallgarten, will share findings from recent Brook research with young people on condoms and contraception, and lead us in exploring Where are young people getting their sexual health information, and what is the role of RSE?
- Emilie Cousins, Programme Manager at Fumble. Trans & non-binary young people's experiences of accessing sex education online; findings from Fumble survey asking trans and non-binary young people (aged 13-25) about their experiences accessing sex education online, exploring implications and recommendations for practice.
Join us on the morning of 13 March 2024 to be part of the conversation.
