For Visiting Educators – Delivering RSE to learners with SEND

A 4 hour course designed to help visiting RSE educators make sessions more accessible and impactful for all learners, particularly those with SEND.

This course will help visiting RSE providers to identify ways they can make their RSE more accessible for all learners and work in partnership with schools to increase the outcomes and effectiveness of their one-off sessions or short-term programs. It will give visiting specialists an overview of different kinds of learning needs and disabilities, key issues facing schools, ways to approach key topics and strategies to improve communication and engagement with sessions.

Participants will:

  • Recap of what the government RSHE guidance says in relation to SEND learners, and how the SEND Code of Practice and the Preparing for Adulthood relate to RSE

  • Explore ways to approach key topics with learners with SEND

  • Reflect on how to select and develop relevant age-appropriate resources

  • Using case studies, reflect on potential barriers to learning

  • Consider ways to make the learning environment as inclusive and safe as possible;

  • Consider how to work with schools to best support learners with SEND with RSE;
